Welcome!

Memory loss is the focus for this month’s eNewsletter. Memory loss is a state of unusual forgetfulness. It can be caused by brain damage resulting from diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s. It may result from an injury or severe emotional trauma. The normal aging process may lead to slower recall of information and greater difficulty in learning new material. In itself, however, aging will not dramatically affect one’s memory.

As always, our goal for this eNewsletter is to provide you with information that you and your family can use to live a healthier life! We are interested, so please let us know what you think

Happy reading and please tell a friend if you believe they will benefit from the contents of this eNewsletter.

How Time Flies! (Time Management/Calendar Info)

November ushers in the holiday season...the joys, the family time, and all of those great recipes and all of that good food! However, it also brings on much colder weather...and the cold and flu season. Doctors have found the strength of our immune system determines the state of our health. When it's compromised we become susceptible to catching a cold, or the flu. Therefore, maintaining a strong immune system is crucial for helping us reduce the risk of coming down with a cold or the flu.

The thymus gland is the master gland of the immune system. It's especially susceptible to stress, free radical damage, toxins, and chronic illness. The thymus gland releases T-cells that help fight against bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other unwanted germs. There are ways to help the thymus gland... Immune system boosters should also help the thymus in November!

Next month we dedicate our e-newsletter to insomnia and other sleep disorders.

We all know that exercise is good for your body to keep in shape. But did you know that exercising your brain can help you retain good memory and help prevent memory loss?

Mental gymnastics is as important as physical ones in preserving brainpower. Try taking up crossword puzzles, memorizing poems, read challenging books or articles that encourage you to expand your interests. Try using your other hand in doing simple things like brushing your teeth, or writing out a grocery list. Any activity that requires concentration, from keeping a journal, learning a new language or learning a new instrument, will challenge your brain. Your brain thrives on new challenges!

Here’s to your health!

Just for Fun---Daily “Keep Fit At Work” Schedule...

A fitness plan for your mind

Clearly there is a payoff for both employees and employers who encourage and support fitness and health. There’s plenty of evidence to prove healthy people are more productive. But amid all the body building, it’s just as important to exercise and work your mind.

To keep your brain, as well as your body, in shape you should:

  • Read constantly, especially about how you can improve your skills, and then follow them through.

  • Spend some time each day on the treadmill of routine activities. Getting them off your mind is like shedding unwanted pounds. You’ll feel better and the tougher, more complex tasks won’t seem so daunting.

  • Meet or talk regularly with others to discuss new ideas and career plans. You may need a few mentors and coaches to help you reach your goals.

  • Treat decision-making as if you’re an athlete trying to see how many sit-ups you can do. Start with a few that are easy, then work your way up to the more difficult ones. In time, you’ll have the stamina to handle many decisions with little effort.

  • View problem solving as an exercise bike that lets you gradually increase pedal pressure. Gets the kinks out with some straightaway easy problems, so you’ll be able to deal with the more uphill ones.

  • Think of yourself as a swimmer, but don’t specialize in just one stroke. In today’s workplace, you must prepare for the possibility that you’ll change careers several times - a freestyle relay event.

  • Move around within your organization whenever you can to gain more skills that could lead to promotion.

  • Give your mind the same break you would your body when exhausted. Set aside a little time each day to let your brain bask in a mental sauna. This will prepare you for future hard exercise.

Remember what Coach Vince Lombardi said: “The harder I work, the harder it is to surrender!”
